Charlotte Family Housing:
Church at Charlotte serves at several Charlotte Family Housing shelters that help families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency, including Elizabeth House and Hawthorne Place. Volunteering during our host weeks is a great way to get involved in service in a safe and inviting environment. No experience is necessary and you are welcome to bring a friend or family member.
We have upcoming host weeks at Elizabeth House from January 22-26 and at Hawthorne Place March 26-30. Please consider helping us to make it a great host week by volunteering for one of the following positions:
• Prayer Partners: folks who will pray specifically for the families we are serving and for our volunteers
• Overnight Hosts: Individuals or couples (could be a mom and a child): to hold down the fort Sunday through Thursday night of our week. This position saves Charlotte Family Housing $150 per night or a total of $750 for our host week. It is also easy. It really only involves visiting with the families and then sleeping in the volunteer suite with private bath!
• We also need folks to provide meals for the families on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. These meals simply need to be dropped off and are used by the families the night they are brought. The families use the leftovers for lunches and dinners on other nights of the week. The meals help the families to save their money as they transition to permanent housing.
• Finally, we need two childcare volunteers on Tuesday night. This is a great way to get to know the sweet children that are making Elizabeth House or Hawthorne Place their home for a time. We are happy to reimburse for craft supplies if you want to pick up a craft to do a craft with the children.
We appreciate your help on behalf of our neighbors who are struggling to get back on their feet by working hard and saving their money to provide transitional and eventually permanent housing for their families.
Our ministry uses Sign Up Genius to facilitate volunteer scheduling at Elizabeth House and Hawthorne Place. Volunteers may stay overnight (you can bring one of your children or a friend to stay with you), provide the evening meal, help with childcare, pray, or provide new linens for program graduates.
Evening and overnight hosts will have to submit a background check before volunteering. Click on the following link Background Check form and scroll to the bottom of the page to access the form. These completed forms need to be emailed to Tammy Medlock.
