Serving Others

November 2009

Thanksgiving Love Offering

Posted on November 25, 2009 at 1:14pm. No Comments

We will have our Thanksgiving Eve service this evening at 7pm.  The love offering from this service will go towards one of our initiatives in China.  Specifically, the money will be going to support pastors in the house church movement in China.  Having just traveled to visit with house churches in China, I can easily say that this is a critical initiative.  These pastors are consistently persecuted and in danger for sharing The Gospel.

I think it is appropriate that, on our Thanksgiving, we remember our brothers and sisters in China who do not share in the same freedoms that we do here at Church at Charlotte.  I look forward to seeing you this evening.

God Bless,
RJ

A TOT Time Thanksgiving

Posted on November 24, 2009 at 10:40am. No Comments

I had the special treat (honestly extra special because my oldest son is in the class) of visiting the TOT Time Next Steps class this morning.  The class donated an entire Thanksgiving meal and extra food to a family at Jackson Park Ministries.  I was able to thank the class and bless the food.  We prayed for the family that receives this meal to know the love of our Lord and Saviour.  A special thanks goes to the teachers, Mrs. Martha and Mrs. Becky, who are teaching the next generation of missionaries!  It was a very touching time indeed.

I also want to thank Heath Krueger, CAC Senior High Pastor, and his youth group for taking this meal over to Jackson Park.  They will be serving Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of folks this evening-what a ministry opportunity for our youth!

Please find a picture of the TOT Time class and box of food below.

You might have caught a video floating around cyberspace last year called Advent Conspiracy.  It was personally convicting to say the least.

I just watched the new video for 2009 and thought I would post it.

I hope you enjoy!

“He’s Changing Mine”

Posted on November 21, 2009 at 8:03pm. No Comments

On Friday night my wife and I had the rare chance to get away on a date.  Date nights have become rare in the Caswell household, due mostly to the fact that, with four young children, logistics and planning can be difficult.  What was even rarer about Friday night is that we were able to go to dinner AND a movie.  Oh what a night.  We had a wonderful dinner and then went to watch a new movie that we had been waiting to see.  The movie was The Blind Side.  The Blind Side tells the true story of Michael Oher.  Oher currently plays OT for the Baltimore Ravens.

I won’t dive into the whole movie plot as I’ve posted the trailer link below.  But I did want to share a quote from the movie that stuck with me and I think applies to living our faith out in service to others.  One of Mrs. Tuohy’s friends tells her what a good thing she is doing by taking care of Michael.  She states, “You are changing that boy’s life.”

Mrs. Tuohy responds, “I’m not changing his life, he’s changing mine.”

Wow!  I think this change in perspective often happens when people take a missions trip such as the ones we take here at CaC.  I know for me, I still often go on a trip focused on what I am going to do to help or provide.  It doesn’t take long though for me to realize that I am the one being changed.

Can you relate?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Please consider leaving a comment as we continue to learn how to serve others together.

God Bless,
RJ

What are you reading?  Do you have some suggestions for me?  I’d love to hear from you!
