Updated EFCA Haiti Response

Posted on January 21, 2010 at 9:40am. 1 Comment

Here’s a brief excerpt from the latest in Haiti from supported missionary Brian Duggan:

The day began with a bang…actually a shake, which we learned later was a 6.1 magnitude earthquake. The psychological impact on this people cannot be overestimated. Streets are crammed with households that will wait a long time before entering a structure again. We are living in a house that withstood the first earthquake with little to no damage. Yet even with that assurance, many in the house and compound (70 of us?) went running when the ground shook this morning. Amazingly and gloriously, voices began singing praise songs soon after the early morning quake. We heard many stories today of people who are turning to Christ in the midst of this. To quote my friend Mark Lewis, Director of EFCA TouchGlobal Crisis Response, “a mission field opens in the wake of every crisis.”

The supplies God provided in His perfect time were like a glass of cold water offered in the desert. Patients lined up long before we arrived and waited patiently as we organized a pharmacy and medical supply area. These supplies were sorely needed today as patients continued to arrive with devastating wounds that have gone too long without care. The clinical picture for many is not good and we saw tragedy that would never happen in a normal setting. Yet even in the midst of this, God is here and we know that He loves each of these people.

Haiti Report from Brian Duggan

Posted on January 17, 2010 at 8:02pm. No Comments

Supported missionary and CAC member Brian Duggan will be heading into Haiti within the next couple of days.  Here’s a brief excerpt from his latest blog post:

I just arrived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida last night and am staying with a wonderful man who will host our other four guys too as we stage for Haiti response.  He is the US leader of Vision of Hope which is a partner ministry with us in Haiti.  Henoc is the Haiti leader and below you will read a report from him.

Our current plan is to fly into Cap Haitian on Tuesday, taking whatever medical supplies we can carry.  The rest of the team gets in here this evening and tomorrow will be spent praying, organizing and planning.  Obviously we don’t know all that we’ll face when we get to Haiti, but we do know there will be unbelievable needs and opportunities to respond.

Please visit his blog here for regular updates on his work in Haiti.

EFCA Haiti Update

Posted on January 16, 2010 at 11:23am. No Comments

From the EFCA Crisis Response blog:

Situation Report.
The situation on the ground appears to be deteriorating. A US Government source that we work with said, “Truthfully, the situation on the ground is not good. Security is becoming a growing concern as well, most military won’t be on station until late next week. Everyone wants to help, but patience is going to be the key here to keep everyone safe and not add to an already difficult problem.”

Our ministry leader in Haiti had this report, “We were in the city of PAP. It is indescribable. Hundreds of rotting bodies piled up. Family cannot get to the bodies of loved ones as they are rotting. Every family I know has a family member who was killed. If you were in a building you are dead. The city is breaking into anarchy, looting, (content deleted..let “and worse” suffice). Water is disappearing. The city is out of fuel. The airport is effectively closed.”

People seem to be fleeing the city, heading out into the undamaged rural areas and other cities to the north of Port-au-Prince(PAP). This will result in stressing already scarce resources in the outlying areas.

Visit their blog for a full updated report and continue to pray.

RJ
