Bono (lead singer of the band U2) recently wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times which I found to be encouraging and challenging.
I’ve posted a paragraph from the article to get you started:
When I met with Ms. Diogo and her group, the less famous but equally voluble women in the room complained about excessive interest rates on their microfinance loans and the lack of what they called “regional economic integration.” For them, infrastructure remains the big (if unsexy) issue. “Roads, we need roads,” one entrepreneur said by way of a solution to most of the obstacles in her path. Today, she added, “we women, we are the roads.” I had never thought of it that way but because women do most of the farming, they’re the ones who carry produce to market, collect the water and bring the sick to the clinics.

The number of people that lost their lives in the China earthquake has risen significantly since I last posted. This morning I read that estimates are over 1700.
I did get word this morning from supported missionary Tom Henry (serving with Worldserve) that the Chinese Church is mobilizing to serve those in the affected area. Please pray for their travel and ministry. Please also pray for Tom and the meetings he is having to assist with relief efforts.
God Bless,
RJ

An earthquake struck Western China yesterday evening. I read an initial report last night that stated no deaths had been reported. I unfortunately woke this morning to read that at least 400 have been confirmed dead and that number is expected to rise significantly.
The 6.9 quake struck Qinghai Province at a shallow depth making the destruction worse. Early reports are most of the buildings in Yushu have collapsed.
The CAC group that traveled to China in October spent time in Xining which is the capital of Qinghai Province. The earthquake struck about 500 miles south-west in Yushu.
Please pray for the first responders, the people living in the affected area, and the local church. We have another CAC group that will be traveling (not to Xining) at the end of the month. Please also pray for them.
You can watch an video with early footage by clicking here or read an article from BBC here.
