Stirred By The Scriptures

Home is a simple four letter word. For each of us, thinking about it draws forth many images and thoughts of what home means.  Suzi and I celebrated 33 years of marriage the other day and 32 of those years have been in Charlotte. After dinner I decided to drive us by each of the homes we have lived in. As we commented on how big the trees had grown and that some of the shrubs we planted were still living we also reflected on memories - some good, some bad. Isn’t it strange that four walls and a roof can contain so much. I can only imagine what heaven will contain when I am finally home.

I Don’t Get It

I know I have blogged about this before but it still stirs my heart and not always in good ways.  I really question God’s timing in people’s lives.  What raises the question is that as friends go through difficult, painful events I would respond differently than God does because of my love for them.  The kicker is I know God loves them more than me and still they are left hanging.  As I try and come to grips with all of it I realize that the bottom line is trust.  So simple and yet so hard.  I need to trust you God.

Simple, by Jim Kallam

I really am pretty simple when it comes to most things. So here is my thought on simplicity
Simple truth worked out through the struggles of life, doesn’t produce simplistic ideas but yields an authentic life.
That is the beauty of the gospel, you don’t need to be a brilliant scholar or a “professional” Christian worker to have it live in your life. “For God so loved the world…” So simple yet so profound.

In the Battle, by Jim Kallam

In a sermon a few weeks ago I mentioned that as we think about the battle God has called us to there is an amazing reality - WE ARE HIS BATTLE PLAN. Tom reminded us of this again yesterday (thanks Tom for your passionate heart) when he said that we are here to finish the work of Christ. I need those constant challenges because it is so easy for me to drift into the daily grind of my own life and miss the true reality. Everyday you and I come face to face with people who need to know that they are loved by God. What do those people walk away with having been in my presence or yours? I hope as you face your day today you will prepare for battle, and you will invade the world with the love of Christ.

It is Singular, by Jim Kallam

We begin this weekend to look at the book of Revelation. Many times I hear people call it the book of Revelations. It is singular, revelation, because the vision John had was singular. It was the revelation of Jesus Christ. John received a fresh picture of Jesus as he is today. It serves as a great reminder that what I need is a fresh picture of Jesus today. I can’t live on a year ago or even a month ago I need to see him today. With all the pictures that my mind will process today I hope the one that stands out is that of Jesus.
