Yesterday was a reminder that it is hard to remember it is Christ we serve and Christ we live for. It is so easy to get caught up people’s expectations, disappointments and even my own wants that I can loose sight of Christ. The author of Hebrews tells us to “Fix our eyes on Jesus…” that is pretty sound advise.

Isaiah spoke these words many years before the birth of Christ “Arise, shine, for your light has come…Nations will come to your light.” - what a tremendous promise and hope. The promise of a light to shine in darkness the promise of hope in despair. But here is the real twist, when I know Christ my life can be a beacon of light to draw people to the light. The challenge for each of us is to live in such a way that people are drawn to us and to the light of Christ.

We have turned the page past Thanksgiving and have definitely moved into Christmas mode. This is also the season referred to as Advent. I have never been a strict follower of the advent calendar. I am sure it is due in part to being brought up in a non-liturgical world and in part because I lack the discipline to stay with the schedule. All that to say whatever method you choose to use I hope that you will use these days to prepare your heart for the celebration of Jesus’ birth. It is after all what Christmas is about.
