God’s love is amazing. What makes it that way to me is the many facets there are to consider. One of the verse that speaks to his love is Jeremiah 31:3 where God says -“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” A love that will never go away and a love that pursues. Wow! Two qualities that I can ponder and appreciate, they are just two of the ways God love me. Why not take some time today and think about the love of God for you.

I was thinking today about the wonderful church leaders I have been privileged to meet through my international travels. Godly men and women in China, Ethiopia, Costa Rica and Cuba who are seeking to build the kingdom as they go about daily life. Their world looks very different than mine. They go about their days without the hectic schedule I so often feel tied to. But in the end we are about the same thing - seeing people come to know Jesus and fall more in love with him. They continually teach and challenge me in so many good ways. My life is richer for having come to know them.

How do you respond when you feel empty? When it comes to my stomach being empty I usually fill it (sometimes over-fill it) till I am satisfied. When it comes to my soul many times my response is the same - fill it. While it is a good and acceptable response for an empty stomach, I don’t think it is for my soul. The emptiness of my life is often filled with things that do not truly satisfy. Oh, they may bring a temporary fix - but it never lasts. A friend has challenged me to think in a different way - stay with the emptiness long enough till what develops is a thirst for God. That is so counter to everything within me. Empty? Fill it up or at least deaden the void. When I live that way my thirst for God will never have a chance to surface. Just something to think about.

“How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity.” - Psalm 133:1
Unity is a quality that God places in high esteem. It is however something that is not easily achieved. We tend to fight and bicker about many things and in the end we go our separate ways. It seems to centers around our need to be right, to have it our own way. I believe God would be pleased if I fought for unity as much as I fight to have it my way.

God has called all of us to live our lives in light of his goodness and the wonder of his salvation. One of the biggest tragedies the church has committed is to speak of calling in terms of those who are in Christian ministry such as pastors or missionaries. The clear implication is everyone else just has a job. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are all called to live, work and play in a manner that reflects the Lord - all of life is a calling to be lived.
