The Apostle Peter was prone to making some bold statements and sometimes they got him in trouble. Perhaps one of the boldest came after Jesus had ascended back to heaven. Peter and John were brought before the religious leaders (including some who were part of Jesus crucifixion) to answer questions. Peter made this statement that really cuts to the heart of the gospel:
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” The name of Jesus is the strong name where life is found. It is the name we need to carry with us were ever we go.

Most of us use a lot of words during the course of a day. We speak them, we write them, and we even Twitter them (well some people do). We use so many words that many of us are guilty of failing to understand how powerful words can be. Words can express joy and excitement but they can also give voice to emotions such as jealousy, fear and anger. The Psalmist reminds us that there is a larger audience who takes in our words. He is the judge I really need to pay attention to.
“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” - Psalm 19:14

Today is designated as the National Day of Prayer. I know that we do not need a designated day to pray but it is a great reminder that prayer is important. In fact one of the biggest lessons I have learned from believers around the world is that prayer is their first option. So I encourage you to take time today to pray whether in a group or alone - pray.

That was some storm we had last night. I have never really gotten scared by storms but I am captivated by the awesome display of power they demonstrate. It is a picture to me of the awesome power of God who will not be tamed or boxed in. Then I am reminded in the quiet that follows of the peace that the Lord brings to this crazy world we live in.
