The Man Moses

The next several blogs are going to be about Moses (great hint as to where our fall teaching series might go). Moses was a fascinating man great leader, great temper, great patience. The patience piece has struck me recently maybe because I am usually short on patience. What must it have been like to be placed on the backside of a desert for 40 years all the time wondering what God was going to do? To make it even more confusing it was Moses’ temper that had put him there in the first place. The fascinating reality is that God was working all the time and never lost sight or control of Moses’ life. Can you and I trust that the same God has never lost sight of us - even when we are waiting?

A Red Sea Moment

I really believe that God longs for us to trust him. Not very easy to do however. Maybe you have been there - a Red Sea moment. There you are the Red Sea in front of you and the Egyptian army closing in behind. What God says is trust me and put your foot down in the sea bed (a great phrase that a friend used recently). Why does God seem to wait to the last moment to open a way? Why not take out the army earlier or have the sea parted when I am a mile away? I have learned he doesn’t often answer those questions he simply wants me to trust.

Living Life

I find it so easy at times to say what I believe, after all they are mere words. The proof is in the living. God has called you and me to live life for his sake and for his glory. My hope and prayer is that God would find me faithful in how I live.

Today

The Great Commission that Jesus left his disciples with begins this way - “Therefore go..” The words are literally “as you are going”. The significance of this is it is to happen as you and I live everyday life.  As we are living life, we are to make disciples.  We are to live the life of a Christ follower, model and teach others to do the same.  Today, right where you are that is your responsibility.  Gives today a whole new meaning - doesn’t it?

The Journey

These are familiar words, but true - the Christian Life is a journey. You will not find it all at once. That would truly be nice however it just doesn’t happen that way. We have ups and downs, times of trust and times of doubt - it can really seem all over the board. I find myself resonating with the man in the gospels who said to Jesus - “I do believe, help me in my unbelief.” So for me the journey continues. Many times I am embarrassed that I am not further along. I guess the good news is I am still on the journey, still moving toward Christ.
