The Book of Proverbs is filled with wise sayings about life. In chapter 24:3 it describes an unique kind of house. We are living in a time where housing values are sliding and it can be really tough to sell a home. Here is a picture of qualities that are recession proof and need to be built in to our homes.
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” Why not make today a day you go and build your house?

“All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.” Proverbs 21:2
It is rare when you meet someone who doesn’t think their way is the right way. We believe we have life “figured” out and that people should understand that we know what we are doing in regards to how we live our life. Just as it is rare to meet someone who doesn’t think they are right, it is rarer still to meet someone who can admit that they were wrong. Behind all of this is the one fact that remains - God knows my heart. He cuts through all the games and gets to what really matters my motive for living.

Yesterday my thought centered on Psalm 139 and in particular verses thirteen and fourteen. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” God blessed us yesterday with the arrival of grandchild number three - a healthy, beautiful (yes I am biased and proud of it) little girl. The gift of life is one of those marvelous miracles that leave me praising the awesome God who is my Father. Thank you Lord.

Called to serve others - now there is a tough concept to market! Yet that is exactly what Jesus asks of each of us. We are to take on the life of a servant. In our day and age, not a very popular way to approach life. To be fair he hasn’t asked any of us to do something he wasn’t willing to do himself - he has led by example. So Lord, make me more thankful, make me more humble and give me the willingness of heart to serve someone today.

Every now and then I need something that puts a smile on my face. I hear plenty of heartache and hard realities on a regular basis so I will be honest, I long for a little joy. This weekend will be one of those “joy moments”. I am going to participate in a wedding of a young man who I have know since the day he was born. I watched him grow up but events a few years ago left me wondering if I would ever see this day. While he was in college he developed testicular cancer and it has been a long, hard journey. The young lady he is marrying met him and hung in with him during that whole ordeal. So when I stand next to him and watch as she comes down the aisle - I will be rejoicing. As the Body of Christ we sorrow with those who weep and we rejoice with those who celebrate. I will be smiling.
