In Need of Strength

Posted on August 30, 2010 at 2:33pm.

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10

What a great verse, what a great reminder! God enters our daily worries with the promise of his presence and the provision of his character.

Correction

I don’t know of many people who like being corrected - I know I don’t. We like to believe we have figured it (whatever it is) out or are at least well on our way to having figured it out. Perhaps it is our pride or sense of self-sufficiency that makes it hard to accept someone else’s challenge but whatever it is, Proverbs says it just isn’t smart.

“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” Pretty easy to understand, don’t you think?

Ever Present

“The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” - Psalm 121:8

We have been watching our youngest granddaughter for the past few days. The meaning of this verse has come into greater clarity, I find myself watching her as she walks from one room to the next. You are constantly looking to make sure she doesn’t touch something that could hurt her or head to the stairs to climb up. I don’t know if she is comforted by my watchful eye but when I read this verse I find comfort in the knowledge that God is aware of all the movement in my life. Thank you Lord for being present.

Wisdom

“Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

The value of wisdom is priceless. I also believe that wisdom is in short supply. Here is where my hope comes from - it is the one thing that God promises to supply. Ask and he promises to give it to us. Wow, that is worth seeking.

Take a Look

I have had the joy of listening to my good friend Davis over the past few days. He has brought my attention to several places in God’s Word, one of which is Hebrews 12:1.
“... let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

His question which has stayed with me is - What hinders my walk with God? What do I let entangle my life? To answer the question requires me to look at my life and honestly deal with the way I live. I will ponder this for a long time and I hope have the courage to make choices to change. Will you?
