Our focus country for the month of October is Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the oldest independent nation in Africa and has over 82 million people. Unfortunately, the country is often plagued by devastating droughts and the resulting starvation and malnutrition. You can read a great country overview by clicking here. Here’s a recent news article the reports on the current drought.
Church at Charlotte is involved in a number of initiatives in Ethiopia and we have sent many of our folks over to see and serve over the past couple of years. We are currently in our third year of our 3-year Ethiopia Initiatives. I’ve listed below some of these initiatives and our partners below.
Initiative – Sports Friends Leader Support
CaC sponsors 4 SF Ethiopia leaders.
Daniel Abebe - Gospel for the Nations Church
Habtamu Debebe - Kale Hiwot Church
Ashenafi Kebede - Yehiwot Berhan Church (working w/Borena people in Southern Ethiopia)
Mingistu Fana - Yehiwot Berhan Church
These leaders work through local Christian churches and help plant new churches using sports as a platform.
Sponsorship includes salary support, training, soccer equipment, and Bibles.
Initiative – World Vision Area Development Project (ADP) in Wonchi
CaC partners with World Vision in the Wonchi region of Ethiopia for community development.
World Vision works to provide clean water, adequate food, education, and basic health care.
Initiative – SIM Langano Area Development-Medical Clinic & Nutrition Center
The SIM clinic is the only medical clinic in a 25 mile radius.
4 nurses see approximately 100 patients per day
Initiative – SIM Langano Area Development-School Library and Supplies
225 students (grades 1-4) attend the school.
The top need is the construction of a library facility.
