Welcome to a brand new year - 2011. Last night and this morning my mind has wondered what this next year will hold. Truth is none of us know but what I do know is that God will be with me every step of the journey and everyday of the year. My prayer is that I put my hope and trust in him. That is my prayer for you too.

This is the last blog for 2010. Hopefully 2011 will bring greater consistency in my entries. I wish I had something profound to say to usher in the new year - but I don’t. So I decided to end this year with someone else’s profound words. The Apostle John as he closes the Book of Revelation (the revelation of Jesus) said this:
“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes I am coming soon’. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”

We live with what some people call “smiling despair”. We truly are in a bad way but we cover it over with the smiles that come from the stuff in our lives that anesthetize the pain. Truth is we don’t realize how much our heart is longing for a satisfaction that will not be found in this world. I want to close my thoughts on the sermon that never was by going back to the phrase Paul used in I Corinthians - “until he comes”. We are to remember Jesus until he comes. We need to remember all he has done for us, the forgiveness of sins and a relationship made possible. We are also to remember the promise of his 2nd advent and the hope for everything to be made right. In the midst of a broken world and a hard life, hope and joy are found in Jesus and all that is to come.

I believe God longs for us to be joyful. Many days that is easier said than done. How I find joy in God while living in a hard world, will often stretch me. When Isaiah speaks it is all about what God will do for his people and that is still true today. We are to carry on what Jesus initiated. I am not creating something new but rather proclaiming with my words and my life what is already true. If that is not enough I am proclaiming what I have already experienced. The truth is that many times I do not proclaim joy because I haven’t experienced it in my own daily walk. Today, what joy could you claim for yourself and then go and proclaim it to a world in desperate need?
